I make pancakes while talking to my sister on the phone (part of my morning ritual). Ty dismantles the baking cart and the rest of the children begin to filter down the stairs as they snuggle up on the couches, each grabbing a blanket to wrap themselves up in like little cocoons. I stack warm molasses pancakes onto a plate, Ty has now climbed the baking cart and is laughing impishly as I pick him up and place him in his seat, sleepy kiddos set the table and we enjoy breakfast together. I smile and think how blessed I am while thanking God for these precious moments that make up daily life. This is life.
|My Goofy Gang.|
I read the Bible to the children and we talk about Saul becoming Paul and how God can use anyone to further His kingdom. We begin our school day and learn about the sun, Ferdinand Magellan, fractions, how to use a compass, and we identify different caterpillars in our backyard. We snuggle up to read aloud on the couch together about Saint George and the Dragon, we marvel at art work, little elbows push to get a closer look at the pictures, I break up another argument and sit in a more central location, we make lunch together, Ty wakes up, we eat, we play outside in the dirt, there are tears over a broken dish, and more tears over a broken toilet seat, I wipe away tears, sweep up broken glass, and repair the toilet seat. This is life.
I sit down to write a post on my blog, little hands help my type, I erase the garbled words from the post and later wish I had kept them, a Lego is lost in the baseboard, more tears, a Lego is rescued, smiles, supper is prepped and simmering on the stove, we complete our remaining school for the day, more play time outside, more boo boos to kiss, dirty feet accompany rosy cheeks, feet are washed, Daddy pulls in the driveway and we all rush to greet him, warm stew is ladled into bowls as we gather around the table to talk about our day, this is life.
The family clears the table and brings me the dishes and I fill the sink with warm water, Ty enjoys playing with the bubbles I place in front of him, Ellie twirls in the kitchen, the boys go off to play, Matthew helps me with the little ones while we catch up on conversation, the kids get into their new pajamas, brush their teeth, and pile into my bed. I read from several books some of which are The Magician's Nephew and The Little Prince. Little ones drift off to sleep and big ones lumber into their beds. This is life.
Matthew and I each check our email and Facebook, we talk for a bit before drifting off ourselves. We turn out lights, peek in on our sleeping babes, and snuggle up close for the night. It is busy in these four walls, life happens here every day, the smiles and tears, the triumphs and trials, and each day ends like the day before... me sitting in bed thanking God for these blessings that He has given me.
This * is * life.
