I scoop up my sweet babe, all 25 squishy pounds and breathe in deeply. Curly, soft locks brush my face as he cups his hands around my cheeks and gives me morning kisses. I change a diaper, make the bed while Ty rolls around on it, and go downstairs to start breakfast. This is life.
Kix cereal are rolling around on the floor as Ty gleefully tosses his morning snack while I make pancakes. I ring the breakfast bell at the foot of the stairs and hear the older children wiggle in their beds. "Coming" -is the response I hear and know that soon footsteps will be heard in the hall above my head. Elianna slowly pads down the stairs and greets me with her sweet goofy grin. This is life.
My children slowly gather around the table one by one. We all give Daddy a goodbye kiss and send him off for the day. I place a heap of warm molasses pancakes on the table with fresh fruit and syrup. Smiles abound. We happily munch away as we talk about our upcoming day. The table is cleared and cleaned, chores are accomplished with some gentle reminding, I give counsel to an argument, help find a lost toy, make a snack, and return phone calls. This is life.
Ty wakes up from his nap in time for a picnic lunch outside, a hawk flies overhead and we notice it's special call, conversation is had, the Bible is read, thanks is given,
laughter flows freely, love abounds, kites are flying free in the wind as spirits grow and thrive... this is life.
I watch my children run and play outside while I wash dishes, I thank God for my husband and the many ways he serves our family as I see reminders of all he does for us as I go about my day. A misunderstanding leads to a locked door, a talk gently from the other side of the closed door, the door opens and I see a tear streaked face whom I cherish. A good heart to heart is had as we snuggle close under a blanket, confusion is cleared, relationships are restored, hearts are mended, God is glorified, this is life.
A tiara is placed gently on a princess, invention is had with Legos, helpers assist in baking cookies, flour dances across the counter, batter is licked from spoons, my apron holds many stains and memories as well as various mementos found strewn about the house ( a pen, a Lego piece, a loose button, a penny, a tissue), dimpled hands reach up for a warm cookie and I delight to see my little one's face covered in chocolate and beaming with appreciation, messes are made here along with memories. This is life.
Dinner is being prepared, the day is drawing to a close, the children run as they see Daddy's Jeep enter the driveway, hugs are given and I receive my "missed you" kiss. We gather yet again around the table as a family and talk about our day. Giggles and screeches are interdispersed throughout our time together. Afterwards everyone helps pitch in to pick up and then we can play a bit longer as the sun fades from the sky.
I thank God for this life... for the beauty found within these four walls. I thank God for each precious soul that makes up my family and for the joy and the unique quality each one brings to my life. It is nice to have a meaning and a purpose, to know your calling and to walk in it proudly.
I am a Momma... and this IS my life.
Have a blessed weekend!
