Dollar Stretching Dishwasher Detergent

I am a bit on the frugal side.  As Daddy would say "pinch the penny till the buffalo farts".  So, after testing many different dishwasher detergent recipes this is the one that I have been using for the last few years without fail.

Here is what you need:

1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
1 cup Cascade dishwasher detergent

Mix em' up and voila! Store in a large, air tight container. Mason jars work beautifully.
I have two soap compartments in my dishwasher... I put 1 Tbsp in the large compartment and about 1/2 Tbsp in the smaller one.  I use white vinegar for a rinse aid.  This detergent works with hard water as well as soft water.

Enjoy those sparkly clean dishes!
